Gilmore Girls-Inspired Cupcakes

“Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life” is a month from air on Netflix and I await it with bated breath!

I wanted to celebrate the revival of this hit T.V. show with a simple viewing party idea: DIY cupcake toppers! Baking your own cupcakes is optional!

  • Fiskars Banner Thick Punch (Large)
  • Cardstock
  • Toothpicks
  • Glue
  • Marker

To create the banners, I folded the cardstock and aligned the punch so the short straight edge was slightly off the paper. This creates a folded banner, much easier for assembly! The viewing window on the other side of the punch makes it easy to line the paper up with the punch.

Punch out a variety of banners in three colors.

When you’re done, you’ll have something that looks a little like this:

These toppers pay homage to the heated debate surrounding Rory’s love life and which heartthrob she’ll ultimately create a life with. You could create a template on your computer and print the names but I kept with the “quick and simple” theme and wrote the names on the banners before gluing them to the toothpicks.

The bad girl in me is totally Team Jess but I have a feeling about Logan! Dean lost me after, like, season five.

Once the toppers are assembled, arrange your cupcakes and insert the toppers. I also had some star toppers lying around and thought, “How perfect!” I also used a heart punch to create some confetti to scatter at the base of the cake plate.

I decided to bake cupcakes for this display (we had a Packer party the same day!) I selected three cake and frosting combinations that I felt represented the guys.

For Team Jess, I baked a white cupcake and spiked vanilla frosting with Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey, maple syrup and crumbled bacon. A bad boy twist on a sweet treat!

Dean’s cupcake is a fudge chocolate cake with a hazelnut chocolate frosting. Tall, dark and handsome – just like Dean!

Logan’s cupcake is ironically vanilla – white cupcake with vanilla frosting.

Who are you going to share this special event with? Will you host a viewing party? Let me know in the comments!
